Promises delivered, Homes improved, More homes built
We are marking three major milestones this week.
Six years after we were established, we are celebrating delivering a £62 million programme of improvement promises, meeting the Governments Decent Home standard twelve months ahead of target and building our first batch of new homes.
The new homes, on former derelict garage sites in Leckhampton Drive, Chatcombe Drive and Langdale Close provide 19 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership. The total cost of the development was £2.2 million, of which £572,000 was funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Tracy Payton, Investment and Regeneration Manager at HCA said: “Our investment is helping to provide much needed affordable homes for Worcester. Our successful partnership approach with Worcester Community Housing demonstrates how we are striving to achieve national targets while supporting the delivery of local housing.”
When we took over council homes in 2004 we made a series of six-year promises to customers. These were to deliver much-needed home and service improvements and to make sure all homes were warm and weatherproof with modern facilities. This included installing new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, heating and home insulation.
WCH Chief Executive Stewart Mountfield said: "At transfer, the Council’s tenants put their trust in WCH to make a real difference to their lives. I am extremely proud of our achievements over the last 6 years and of the high customer satisfaction rates which are currently at 88%. We have also shown how an independent, well governed and well managed business can be the hub and catalyst for wider community benefit. It is a really great day for all the customers, partners, stakeholders and staff who have worked so hard to make WCH a success."
Chair of the Board Chris Almgill, who has been part of WCH since the beginning said: "To achieve all this in such a short space of time is a real landmark for WCH. Our plans for the future are equally challenging but we are confident that working together with our customers, stakeholders and local communities we can deliver local ambitions and continue our work to create homes and communities that we can all be proud of."
The momentous hat trick was marked with a celebratory event at Worcester Rugby Club. WCH Board Directors were joined by customers, partners stakeholders and staff who have all played a part in delivering the milestones.
